Who can participate?
Any student from grades 3 to 6 can register and participate in the preliminary rounds. Team Canada will have two levels. Team members for Level 1 (L1) will be selected from grades 3 and 4, and team members for Level 2 (L2) will be selected from grades 5 and 6. If your child skipped or was held back a grade, they must write the competition that is age specific to the grade level.
How can my child participate?
You can register your child to participate for the two preliminary rounds. The top 100 (Top 50 each from L1 and L2) based on an average from the Provincial Qualifiers and Provincial Semi-Finals will be invited to write the WMO Canadian Provincial Finals.
When can I register my child?
You can register online until March 29, 2021. Please bear in mind that WMO Canada will not accept any registrations after the registration deadline has passed.
Which dates are important to remember?
In order to participate in the WMO 2021 Competition, please keep in mind the following dates:
Registration deadline: you have until March 29, 2021 to register your child for the preliminaries
Provincial Qualifiers: April 9, 2021 (online participation of all applicants is required)
Provincial Semi-finals: April 16, 2021 (online participation of all applicants is required)
WMO Canada Provincial Finals: April 30, 2021. (online)
WMO Canada National Finals: May 14, 2021. (in-person*)
WMO Global Finals: August 11, 2021. (in-person*)
*Conditional to COVID-19 protocols and if international borders are open
L1 and L2 teams for WMO 2019 Global Finals will be announced afterwards.
Who will accompany my child at the global finals competition?
It is mandatory for one parent to accompany their child.
In addition, our coaches from WMO Canada will accompany Team Canada for the global finals in Toronto.
How can my child prepare for the competition?
Practice will allow your child to compete at their best. Please use our online resources to help your child be fully prepared for the preliminary rounds as well as for the Canadian Finals.
If your child is selected to represent Canada, they will be part of a multi-phase training program designed by our experienced WMO coaches. This program will include standardized training, but most importantly our coaches will individualize the training material to support each finalist’s individual needs.
Where will the WMO Global Finals 2021 be held?
The WMO Global Finals are held in a different country every year. In 2021, the competition will be held in Toronto, Canada.
How long do students have to write each competition paper?
The time allowed for the paper is 45 minutes. Students must stop writing when they are told to do so. Please arrive 15 minutes before the competition starts.
